DEPARTMENT OF OPHTHALMOLOGY

This department is manned with one Specialist and 2 GMDOs with PG qualification.

Services:

Ophthalmology department has OP from Monday to Saturday and operation theatre days on two days per week (Monday & Thursday)

OT SERVICES

1.Small incision cataract surgery with intraocular lens implantation

2.Pterygium excision with conjunctival autograft

3.Intravitreal anti-VEGF injection

4.Intravitreal dexamethasone implants

5.Excision of lid masses

OPD SERVICES

• In the OPD we do refraction and spectacle prescription for the patients who come with refractive errors after detailed slit-lamp examination and fundus examination.

• We run Glaucoma clinics, uvea clinic, diabetic retinopathy clinics and cataract work-ups and laser treatments in OPD.

• For the patients who come to glaucoma clinics, we take history related to glaucoma and do slit-lamp examination; gonioscopy, dilated fundus examination, we do field test with Humphrey field analyzer for all glaucoma suspects for diagnosing any field defects and dofield tests during the follow-up for already diagnosed cases of glaucoma.YAG iridotomies are done in primary angle closure glaucoma patients.

• In Uvea clinic, we do detailed history taking followed by ocular examination and systemic evaluation relevant lab investigations and manage them with topical and systemic medication depending on the type of uveitis. Relevant cases which need rheumatology/pulmonology cross consultations also will be taken.

• In the Retina clinic, we do routinely screening for diabetic retinopathy for diabetic patients and hypertensive retinopathy for patients with hypertension and also toxic optic neuropathies like HCQ, Ethambutol toxicity etc. Fundus examination for these patients include slit-lamp 90 D examination as well as indirect ophthalmoscopy.

• Patients with retinopathies are followed-up and treatment provided. We give Intra-vitreal anti-VEGF injections and Dexamethasone implant injections for diabetic macular edema, ARMD and RVO depending on the case scenario. Patients requiring retinal laser treatment and retinal surgeries are provided treatment from the empaneled hospitals.

• We are doing cataract surgeries. Patients coming with cataract are evaluated and worked up including anterior segment examination, IOP and fundus examination in OPD.

• A scan and keratometry is done for IOL power calculation. They are posted for cataract surgery after lab investigation and proper fitness from physician and anaesthetist.

Following cataract surgery also they are followed-up regularly and proper instruction given as post-op care and medication

• For patients with significant after cataract or Posterior Capsular opacification we have the facility to do YAG Capsulotomy.

• We do minor procedures like Foreign body removal, I & C of Chalazion and Laser procedures in OPD.

• We are managing Chemical injuries and other work site injuries in OPD.

• We are also managing other cases like Squint, Corneal ulcers, RTA cases etc. in OPD and give IP care for necessary cases.

• We also attend to ophthalmology cases which come to casualty and attend to the ward cases and cross consultation from other OPDs.
